OH MY

Oh my, its been a long time since I posted.  I have finished classes at Lia Schorr Institute.  I really loved going to class and learning about makeup application.  I am still working at being a better makeup artist.  I am grabbing all of my friends to be models for me to practice on!

I am not gone

Hi! I just wanted to post an update.  I haven't thrown in the towel yet!  Currently life is pretty hectic to say the least.  Work sucks and has become so draining. Who's job isn't though. I like am sure many others are being asked to do twice as much with half the time and staff.  Luckily for me there is a light at the end of the tunnel even though its still over a month possibly two away.

I decided also to make the jump and get some formal training for MakeUp Artistry.  I am currently attending Lia Schorr's Makeup School in New York on the weekends.  Since I am base out of the South Jersey area it makes for a long day in travel time alone.  I am so excited though traveling back and forth into the city and meeting all of these wonderful ladies in my class. It has been so fun it has been keeping me going when I want to pull my hair out with work.  The positivity that these ladies have brought to my life is awesome.  I forgot that great comrade that you get with finding a group of people who have the same goal in mind.

Anyway, I just wanted to drop you all a note and let you know I am not gone, I am trying to better myself so that I can then better my blog and more importantly my skills!

Thank you for looking,

Unii Palette

Every time I hit a 10 pound loss in my goal to get to a total weight loss of 150 lbs I get my self a little treat.

Yeah its gonna be a lots of treats, but so what why not.

I have a MAC palette for eye shadows and its kinda lacking to say it nicely.  Yeah it holds the shadows, its thin and holds quite a few.

I had seen it on Makeup Geek's website and seen many a review about it so when I hit a particularly troublesome ten pound mark I set to ordering.

A wink and a prayer

So I went into the drugstore hoping to get a cheaper mascara.  I love plush lash from MAC. I know its over priced for a mascara you have to chuck in the trash in 3 months but it separates and gives me volumes.  So I know there are lots of girls and some boys that swear by the mascara they get at the drugstore.

So I picked this up hoping that I would be able to replaced plush lash.

Its was off to a good start with a cool looking mascara wand.
I had high hopes for this one.  It had gotten some good reviews.  I just don't care for it.  It clumps on me like nobody's business.  Each time I have used it I have to go thru my lashes with an eyebrow comb to break up the clumps.

I would not recommend this at all.

I guess I will have to scope out another one.

Thanks for looking,
Mo

Back to MAC Haul

I depotted a bunch of my MAC lipsticks and eye shadows.  So that gave me quite a bit to go back to MAC.

So without further ado or whatever its called

I picked up some staples, Vanilla eyeshadow, Russian Red and Diva. I have vanilla pigment already but the pan is much easier and I am not that great a pressing my pigments into shadows.
From Left to right, Diva, vanilla then Russian Red.
You can barely see the vanilla in between the two reds but its there.  I just swatched it over bare skin.

Love the back to MAC program!

Thanks for looking!

Reserve yourself

Well not really.  I think of it more like your reserve wine.  You know the kind you always have on hand for when something good happens.  If you pick your poison and it isn't alcohol maybe try this OPI polish.

Its one of the designer series and a pain in the backside to find.  I only seem to find it at Ulta and only very limited shades.

Its a really georgous shade of pink.

Check it out. So pretty! Sparkles!

Airy like a Farie

Yeah, I finally fell into the hype.  Not that it is that surprising but its worth the hype.
Its Rimmel's Airy Fairy #70.
I have to admit, I was quite surprised how well this shade works.  For me its like my lips but better.
Here it is above without flash below with flash.
I have fairly pigmented lips which usually work fine with a bit of gloss.  I do have some scars from piercings so its nice to have a lipstick that evens out the color.
I picked this up at Ulta with a coupon.  So it was pretty cheap.  Gotta love those coupons!

Thanks for looking!

My other fun colors!

With all of the snow recently I have been staying a home a bit more these past couple of weeks.

I went to a local yarn store, lys and found some really cool yarns so I figured I would share with you all some of the pics.  They are so pretty and I can't wait to knit them up.

Did you ever wonder?

Did you ever wonder about those samples and I mean samples loosely, in the magazines?

Well I normally don't consider it a sample unless I can get a good use if not two out of it.  Maybe I am spoiled that way but if I am going to plunk down my cash on a product I want to make sure it works.  Rarely do I make a jump on something like foundation without getting a sample or at the least having the sales associate put some on me.  After seeing Dusty Hunter's tips on buying foundation, it really does make sense to try it on and walk around check it out in different lighting and see how it oxides on the skin. So I ripped out an insert of foundation.
To be honest I don't really buy L'oreal products.  Yes, I have bought the long last lipsticks that they have but on general I don't buy from them because of the animal testing that their vendors for ingredients do.  At least the last time I checked.
As you can see the don't really give you a lot of product.  I am sure they probably weight out the cost benefit analysis of how much they can place and how much return they get on it.
So I placed the base on my hand which was more than enough for my hand.  It did even out the lines for the most part and felt very smooth after.  Not really anything different then any foundation primer.
I opened up the lightest color since it would best match my skin on my hand.
I haven't tried the souffle types of foundation before and it was kinda weird.  It might be because I am so use to liquid foundation or tinted moisturiser that this was off putting.  It was kinda crumbly and sat on top of the skin.
Here it is blended out.  It still was a bit flakey on me.  I wouldn't try this type, semi solid foundation on my skin because I have such dry skin that I can tell this would show dry patches up like a highlighter.
I did leave it on for about an hour or so and didn't see to much of an oxidation issue.  So that's a bonus.

I do like the idea of samples and now I might swatch them on a more regular basis to see if drugstore brands can hold up to department store foundations.  I guess I will just have to try and stay in the house if I put it on my face!  No one wants to look like Juliette Lewis in the Other Sister!

Thanks for looking my little lemon drops!

New for Oh!

I had seen this nail polish brand on a couple of blogs.  Its not for the leery.  Well at least the pocketbook for sure.  I thought a lot about purchasing this one since it was $12.50.  Yeah not cheap.  Especially since I don't like to spend over 5 bucks max.  Since I love to get new polishes, I get coupons where ever I can to make it under the 5 dollar limit.

I broke my budget rule for this one because of the holo look.  This is hands down the coolest polish I have.  Its called NFU065.  Not the most original name.  Its part of the Victorian Series of polishes.  I ordered it online and it took awhile but not horrendous shipping time.  I did get a confirmation email and a link that I could view where the package was at.
The pictures don't do it justice.  It literally looks like a cool holographic stickers on your nails. Well I guess you could find a sticker but I love painting my nails.
Above is only two coats of polish.  I think that I could have used 3 coats because it does streak a bit but it coats so well that you do have to take a close look to see if you have missed a spot.  Another thing I noticed is that when I put Seche Vite on top it somewhat tones down the holo.  Weird.  The one polish that I would want to protect won't let me!!! I haven't tried any other top coats which might help keep the holo look without toning down the holographic effect.

The wear time is pretty normal for me.  The tips do go in about a day and half maybe two.  I am quite hard on my nails due to my job has me typing about 7 hours a day.   If you aren't typing as much as I do, you will get longer wear out of them.  I didn't see any chipping on the sides or next to the cuticle.

Would I recommend, oh yeah.  I really don't see me picking up many other colors since they are so pricey for nail polish at $12.50.  Although I do have my eye on one of the "flakies" polish since I can't seem to find the Sally Hansen Secret Treasure's polish which looks to be a really cool top coat.

Crakleious....Really Mo Really

So I am not the best at Post titles.  Never been on the quick witted side.  I am so the person that has someone a hole say something smart ass to them to only to finally come up with a comeback an hour or two later.

Yeah its a feature of mine.  I like annoy my friends with telling them what I should have said.

Hmmh like that.

Image Beauty got the OPI Katie Perry and Serena Williams nail polishes.  Instead of paying 9 bucks at Ulta I got them for about 5.  So if your in Blackwood, its a good shop in the Shop Rite shopping center.

Above is the Serena Williams one with the crackle coat and two coats of Seche Vite.

This one is Teenage Dreams under crackle.

A mess up of the crackle it was just one coat but a heavy coat of polish and it didn't crack so much!  Kinda of different.  Maybe with an obnoxious shade below...hmm.
Actual name

Some fun close ups of the nail polishes!

Check out the Sparkles

Serena's sold in a duo.
Easy peasy directions, use a lite coat for more space in between the black.

Ha Ha I get the name now.
Grunts.
It does kinda remind me of a tennis ball.  Its more golden sparkles then what I think of a bad pee tennis green.  Or that might just be me.

I am happy with the shades I got.  I do think that I will eventually go back and pick up the blue one from Katie Perry's shades since I love me some blue.

A side note, while I love having my gel nails cause goodness knows I hated my nails chipping into the nail bed because they were so flimsy.  They are starting to wear on me.  I can't scratch anything.  Stickers, nail polish on the edge of my cuticles and my little spots of eczema.  Although I always thought that I would one day have to tape on mittens not to scratch my elbows where the eczema is, I guess I don't have to do that now...TMI sorry.  I have been sharing too much info...

Window Shopping

So I read this blog http://legothique.com/ on a regular basis.  Grey does a regular post on the weekends mostly of window shopping.  These great images of things she sees online and finds interesting and cool.

I love that regular post.  So the other day I was out and about and driving through Haddonfield NJ.  At the corner of Kings Highway and Haddon Road there is a store called Jay West.  Its a dress shop that reminds me so much of the dress shop in the Time Machine by H.G. Wells.

Their window displays are gorgeous.  So many beautiful dresses.  So many expensive dresses that I can't own much less have anywhere to were these beautiful dresses.  But I digress, I was driving by and I saw this beautiful dress.

Its so pretty.  Don't mind me in the reflection!  On my wanderings back home I stopped at Woolplay down the street and headed back up to the shop and grabbed some pictures.  They don't do it justice but it gets the point across.

I went in and asked how much, I thought it would be 600 to 800 but it was 485.  Still way out of my price range, much less that I have absolutely no where to wear it too.
I love it.  It makes me smile.

If you get a chance you should really check out Le Gothique's website.  She does lots of reviews of indie makeup companies and Esty.  Which is great because it supports small business and gives you detailed honest reviews on customer service, shipping times and quality.  Grey tells you if it is a repackaged shade that you could find for cheaper and if the item off of Etsy is quality made.

She also does to reviews of major cosmetic brands too, so if indie is not your thing Grey covers those as well.

Sephora Makeup Haul, sorta of not really to be honest.

So the other night I found myself in an all too familiar situation.  I would love to say that it never happens or even rarely happens to me.  But I found myself standing in the middle of the Cherry Hill Mall looking like an idiot.  No, this isn't what happens all of the time but close.  I forgot my phone and I was suppose to call a friend that I was going to meet up to tell them where I was.
Yes, I have missed dinner dates trips into the city and now pissing off my friends just at random.  I can't help it.  I forget my phone all of the time.  I will be first in line Or just pushed there by my friends and family when they come out with a phone inserted under the skin.  Maybe I will just pick up some super glue and a bluetooth headset!
Back to me standing in the mall.  I had run a circle around to all of the stores I thought that Gina would be in and even begged the mall security to do an announcement with no luck.  Low and behold I am standing there trying to keep an eye on where I know she was suppose to be heading to when she comes up behind me!
Yeah!!!!
So after Gina finding me we headed over to Sephora.  I love going to Sephora with Gina.  We have such a good time and love discussing the makeup we have tried, what we are excited to pick up and what it looks like on!
So I ended up picking up the Stila smudge stick waterproof eyeliner in Morley and got the Fresh perfume in citron de vigne for cashing in some of my vib points.
I like the perfume, its nice and fresh pun intended.

I was surprised how much was in the bottle, granted it was a 100 point perk but still, lately I have noticed that while Sales Associates will always happily give me samples they have been on the minuscule side. Not that I am complaining at all.  I am just saying ya know?
The reason why I got Morley was hearing from Gina about how great the liners are.  I don't have many items, actually none that I can think of from Stila.  They do come in a lovely variety of colors.  This green was just screaming my name.  Its got a bit of gold flecks in the liner and it just pops.
I love these liners in the twist tubes.  I find it so much easier to line with a thin pointed liner.  It helps my man claws that the liners fine tip lets me get close to the lash line.

Its showing more gold green but in real life its more olive green with gold shot thru.

On a side note, I am digging the packaging that Stila uses.

As you can see it comes in cardboard packaging that easily goes into the recycle bin.  I am all about pretty packaging but its cool when you see this and realize its more whats inside.  Or maybe maturity is dragging me kicking and screaming into actual adulthood.  *Shivers*

Thank you for looking!

Best wishes and cell phone always handy for you!

Happiness in a Jar

So I love Chanel Makeup. I have no illusions that I would ever be able to afford to wear Chanel clothes.  They just don't come in my size, they are way to expensive for me and if I did have enough money to by Chanel clothes I am sure I haven't paid rent.

Even with all of that I do lurk around the Chanel counter in Macy's more than I should.  I am a stray from the MAC counter that just can't get enough.  The ladies at the counter should know this by now.  I look all of the time and rarely buy.  But the other day I was looking at the makeup and wandered over to the skincare and low and behold the Beautiful Sales Associate, who's beauty elevated for the fact that she gave me a sample of some face cream.  I don't care if you think I am shallow or stupid to be happy over a sample.  I love it.  I don't even remember what kind of skin cream she said was in it, I just love the little glass jar!  Most places give you samples in a plastic jar or a baggie that reminds you of some kind of elicit drug deal, not that I have any experience, I am just saying! ;o)

So here it is

I love the double C's.  Its so cute.
Its a face cream that has a gel consistency to it.  To say that it works great wouldn't be honest because it lights up my face just to pick up the jar.

Thanks for looking and letting me share my little obsessions with you!
Lots of Love to you and yours,
Mo
